Subject: Improving the implementation and the application of the Law on Free Access to Public Information, the Law on Classified Information and the Law on Protection of Personal Data


Round Tables on “Improving the implementation and the application of the Law on Free Access to Public Information, the Law on Classified Information and the Law on Protection of Personal Data” were held on May 30, June 10 and 11, 2007.

The aim of the meetings was to have expert discussions on the implementation of these three laws by the central government, the banking sector, the media and the telecommunication sector in order to identify the good examples, the challenges and the possible problems. The invitees to the Round Table included the officials who are directly responsible for the implementation of these laws, as well as media representatives from the Republic of Macedonia, representatives of the telecommunication sector in the Republic of Macedonia and representatives of the banks in the Republic of Macedonia. The speakers on the Round Table included: The Director of the Directorate for Security of Classified Information, Ms. Marijana Marushic, Director, Directorate for Protection of Personal Data, Mr. Janko Nikolovski, Director, Commission on Protection of the Right of Free Access to Public Information, as well as Academician Prof. Dr. Vlado Kambovski, Prof. Dr. Borche Davitkovski and Docent Dr. Ana Pavlovska Daneva.

Organizers and supporters of the meetings were: the Foundation Open Society Institute – Macedonia and the Metamorphosis Foundation, in cooperation with the Commission on Protection of the Right of Free Access to Public Information, the Directorate for Protection of Personal Data and the Directorate for Security of Classified Information.

The second cycle of round tables will continue in September when the representatives of the local self-government, the courts in the Republic of Macedonia and the representatives of the Bar will discuss these three laws.
