Regional Online Workshop

Skopje, 28 April 2022

The Directorate for Security of Classified Information, in cooperation and with the support of the Regional Cooperation Council, organized on 28 April 2022 the “Reflective Workshop on the Intersections between the Security Awareness and the Security Aspects of Classified Information”. Renowned experts and practitioners from the EU Commission and the European External Action Service as well as from NATO Office of Security elaborated on the concept of security awareness in the context of protecting classified information and presented on concrete mechanisms for raising security awareness. The national and regional perspective on this particularly important segment of security of classified information were also provided by representatives from the Directorate itself as well as by representatives of the national security authorities of the SEE region. Practical experiences were also exchanged among the workshop’s participants.

The online reflective workshop was held within this year's Chairmanship of the National Security Authority of the Republic of North Macedonia with the SEENSA Initiative.

Working visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina

Sarajevo, 12-13 April 2022

 

PictureIn the framework of the visit to Sarajevo, on 12-13 April 2022, a delegation of the Directorate for Security of Classified Information visited the Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina and had a working meeting with representatives of the State Security Organ (National Security Authority). A number of current issues relevant to the scope of work of the national security authorities, including the cooperation within the SEENSA and 6S initiatives for regional cooperation were discussed at the meeting.

During the stay in Sarajevo, the delegation met with the Head of the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) Political Department in order to coordinate the organization of the annual SEENSA conference to be held in September 2022 in Skopje, within the framework of this years’ SEENSA chairmanship by the Directorate for Security of Classified Information.

Agreement with United States of America concerning Security Measures for the Protection of Classified Information

The Agreement between the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia and the Government of the United States of America concerning Security Measures for the Protection of Classified Information was signed on December 21, 2021 in Skopje. On behalf of the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia, the Agreement was signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bujar Osmani, and on behalf of the Government of the United States of America, the Agreement was signed by the Ambassador of the United States of America in Skopje, Kate Marie Byrnes.

This agreement regulates the manner of exchange of classified information between the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia and the Government of the United States of America in the fields of foreign affairs, defence, security, rule of law, science, industry, and technology by setting out the measures and procedures necessary for the protection of such information in the aforementioned areas.

Meeting with representatives of the National Security Authority of the Republic of Albania

PictureUpon invitation of the director of the Directorate for Security of Classified Information a three-member delegation of the National Security Authority of the Republic of Albania paid a visit to the Directorate on 06 - 07 December 2021.

A number of issues of common interest for the national security authorities were discussed at the meeting. An emphasis was put on the implementation dynamics of the concluded bilateral agreement as well as on the cooperation in the area of personnel, industrial and CIS security. Comparative experiences on the current national legislations on classified information protection were also exchanged at this bilateral format of cooperation.

This working visit, which was organized at directors’ level, forms part of the Directorate’s activities to maintain and further develop the international cooperation with partner institutions from the region.

Visit to the Republic of Slovenia

Ljubljana, 27 October 2021

 

On October 27, 2021, a delegation of the Directorate for Security of Classified Information visited the Government Office for the Protection of Classified Information of the Republic of Slovenia. At the meeting, the counterparts discussed on a number of current issues relevant to the scope of work of the national security authorities, including the cooperation within the SEENSA and 6S initiatives for regional cooperation.

During the stay at Ljubljana, a visit was made to the Centre for European Perspective of the Republic of Slovenia. At the meeting with its CO, Ms. Katja Gershak, views were exchanged on the importance of the activities aimed at countering the disinformation spread from outside.

Presentation of the Book of Commentaries on the Law on Classified Information

PictureUnder the auspices of the Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance (DCAF), the Directorate for Security of Classified Information on July 7, 2021 held the conference entitled “Presentation of the Book of Commentaries on the Law on Classified Information”.

Organized within DCAF’s Intelligence and Security Sector Reform Programme in the Republic of North Macedonia (2021-2026), the conference aimed to promote the Book of Commentaries on the Law on Classified Information as well as to present the novelties deriving from the new Law on Classified Information. Opinions on the necessity for raising security awareness among the users of classified information were exchanged and the E-tutorial on classified information related thereto was also promoted.

Agreement with the Hellenic Republic on mutual protection of the exchanged classified information

PictureThe Agreement between the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia and the Government of the Hellenic Republic on Mutual Protection of the Exchanged Classified Information was signed on February 26, 2021 in Skopje.
On behalf of the two Governments, the Agreement was signed by the Directors of the respective National Security Authorities, Mr. Stojan Slaveski and Major General Angelos Choudeloudis. At the meeting, the focus of the discussions was put on the existing bilateral relations between the two countries and on the new possibilities for cooperation in areas that involve exchange of classified information. At the same time, mutual commitments were reiterated for intensifying the close cooperation and for reaffirmation of the confidence building process between the two counties as an example for good neighborly relations in the region.

Marking of the 16th Anniversary of the Directorate

The 16th anniversary of the establishment of the Directorate for Security of Classified Information was marked on the 5th of March 2020 with a special ceremony and a solemn speech by the Director of the Directorate for Security of Classified Information. On marking this important event, the employees with the longest record of service in the Directorate were awarded with appropriate plaquettes which symbolize their significant contribution to the capacity building and the operational activities of the institution throughout the years. The Directorate continues to be the main pillar in the protection of classified information and to actively participate in maintaining and advancing the national security in the years to come.

TAIEX Study Visit to the National Security Authority of the Czech Republic

A three-member delegation of the Directorate for Security of Classified Information visited the Czech National Security Authority in Prague, in the period from 25 to 27 June 2019, within the study visit on the “Strengthening the role of the National Security Authority within the national security system of governance: Organisational, Human Resources and Legal aspects”, supported by the TAIEX instrument of the European Commission. The aim of the study visit was to get familiar with the organizational set-up and the legal competencies of the Czech NSA, as well as exchange of experiences on issues related to the cooperation with the international organizations and the implementation of the EU regulation on the protection of classified information.
